Students who pass are permitted to proceed to the dissertation. In September there is a meeting of the full Board of Examiners for the MSc (including the External Examiner) where the results from all examinations and dissertations for each candidate are available. The Board makes use of University Regulations and Departmental guidelines on the award of MSc degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas.
Dissertation. The dissertation option is to provide a structured opportunity for independent learning. It is a particularly useful choice for students thinking of going on to graduate work, but it is also relevant for career destinations requiring skills in gathering and synthesising material.
Most higher research theses (PhDs and Masters dissertations by research) successfully submitted at the University of Warwick are transferred to the University Library for use by researchers. MBA theses are the main exception - MBA theses selected for retention are kept at Warwick Business School in the Project and Dissertations Office.
The dissertation is a piece of academic writing about 15,000 words long (or about 20,000 for History of Medicine students) - roughly the length of two academic articles or book chapters - and you will need to identify a topic which can be dealt with within that length whilst showing originality. It is not a book, nor an essay. You should view it mainly as an opportunity to develop research.

In PAIS, taking a dissertation is completely optional, and it counts for 30 CATS (25% of your year). It is 10,000 words long, and can either replace a third year module, or it can alternatively be an area you have not yet covered within your course. Although it is optional, I had personally always planned on completing a dissertation. For me, I felt that it was a great way to finish my 3 years.Learn More

We use results by Chenevier and Hansen to interpolate the classical Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for Hilbert modular forms, which gives an extension of Chenevier’s results to totally real fields. From this, in the case of totally real fields of even degree, we obtain isomorphisms between eigenvarieties attached to Hilbert modular forms and those attached to modular forms on a totally.Learn More
